Materialism

The noun materialism is the theory or belief that only physical matters exist or that material things are the most important things to obtain in life, rejecting the spiritual, intellectual and cultural values.

The word origins from French matérialisme (material + ism). Its first known use was in 1696, meaning the definition defined above.

My neighbor, John, extremely supports materialism.

I won’t ever attend that event for it promotes vanity and materialism.

Seriously, there’s more to life than materialism. I believe people are far more important than that.
