Hypocritical

The adjective hypocritical means someone who pretends to have the qualities, beliefs, or feelings that they do not really have.

Synonyms are deceptive, deceitful, insincere, or self-righteous.

The word origins from 1540s. It comes from hypocritic, which was used in the same sense, plus -al. It won out over hypocritish (1520s) and hypocritic (1530s).

I’m probably a little hypocritical at times, and it makes me feel guilty.

It’s not okay to observe much hypocritical behavior at the church, but I’m more concerned of the doctrines not the people.
