Deprecate

The verb deprecate means to criticize something.

Synonyms are belittle, condemn, depreciate, or detract.

The word origins from Latin (1620s) deprecatus, past participle of deprecari meaning “to pray (something) away”. It comes from de meaning “away” plus precari meaning “to pray”. The meaning “to express disapproval, urge against” is from 1640s.

The president deprecates the use of national health funds for political purposes.

He deprecated the low quality of outputs the marketing team was delivering.

I feel she shouldn’t have deprecated me that much but I still chose to ignore it.
